Meena Kumari Dieterich, CPM, LM
Meena is a Licensed Midwife (LM) in the state of Vermont and a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives. She is a graduate of the National College of Midwifery, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Reproductive Health from Hampshire College.
Born – at home! – in Brooklyn, New York, Meena carries a life-long love of birth stories and community care into her work as a midwife. Her interest in midwifery as a profession was ignited by an essay she wrote for a high school history class. From there, she has approached birthwork from several angles: she was a full-spectrum doula for many years, mostly with the NYC-based volunteer collective The Doula Project; at Hampshire College, her thesis research explored midwifery and American birth-care systems through oral and archival histories.
In 2020, Meena melded her interests in the academic, the clinical, and the communal, and began midwifery school. As a student midwife, she has attended births in Maine, Vermont, and eastern Washington, and worked as a medical assistant in a busy gynecology practice. She is passionate about providing individualized care, and helping folks navigate all the complexities of the childbearing year. She is based in Burlington, where, in her free time, she can be found cooking and baking for friends, dancing swing or contra, hiking, and reading science fiction.
